By the time you have read all this page you'll be able to convince the next person you meet they've forgotten where they live. I guarantee it because I've seen it work.

Have you ever been distracted for a second and forgotten what it was you were doing before? Everyone has. It's how pickpockets work. It's how Governments get away with raising taxes without us knowing. It's how successful websites sell.

Ok, I'm actually going to take back my guarantee because I can't guarantee it at all even though I probably could. But the essence of it remains true because you are still reading this, and I'm pretty certain you'll want to read to the end.

You've got past the 1 second rule so "Your ass is mine" as Robbie Williams once said.

What happens next is down to me. I might lead you down a set sales path or hit you with a hard sell straight away. All depends on what I want to achieve.

Derren Brown - mind games

We're manipulated by communication everyday. Watch Paul McKenna or Derren Brown, they're pretty successful by it, but they have a huge advantage because they can see their 'victim'. Part of their technique (called NLP by the way) is to adjust their positioning (physical and verbal) based on their victims reactions to their own.

With a website we don't have that luxury of knowing the person browsing, we can only presume certain things (unless we know them already, or where they clicked from etc). What we have to do is use tried and tested broad methods of getting them to achieve our goals.

 

Embedded Psychological Triggers?

There are various techniques used, some are obvious but not immediately apparent, others are based on psychological triggers that when used right will ensure a better response rate.

How many times have you been to a website and clicked away, then gone to a competitors website for the same product but felt compelled to buy it from them instead? You see, we don't buy with our heads, we buy with our emotions. The key to getting want you want is to grab someones attention, get them to place their trust in you then hit them with an emotional reason for buying/downloading or contacting you.
